Plasma on Corridor of Cells (1998), English

BAD SECTOR "PLASMA" Old Europa Cafe
6/10

A very intriguing experimental release from this Italian band, comprised of sources as diverse
as the Russian space stations Vostok, Salyut & Soyuz, pulsar recordings, neon tubes radio signal
recordings & high voltage transformer recordings.
The music itself seems to lie in the rarely explored void between ambient and death industrial,
with just a subtle touch of power electronics. The opening track "Ions" is a good example:
high-pitched analogue radio sounds,, intermixed with dark drones and reverbed synths
(plus some mutated words blended in).

The second track "Waveguides" has a bit more isolationist feel to it, although some of the weird
analogue effects give it a spacey, cosmic mood. Each of tracks seems to be based
upon a different sound source, allowing for a diverse sound and avoiding repeating the same ideas
over and over. The whole CD is nearly 100% instrumental and admittedly quite original.

At times it gets a bit too ambient for my taste (and my personal fascinations has always been with
rhythm, which is nearly absent here), which is why "Plasma" doesn't make me fall head over heels.
However, for those of you who delve into this subgenre more often will definitely be interested
in this interesting release. Limited edition of 747 copies, so to obtain it write to:
